Census Figures PDF Print
Written by Steven Dowd
I found whilst adding information into the History section the population figures for Newton from census reports dating back to 1801
The population figures for Newton-le-Willows, taken from the National Census reports, starting from 1801, are as follows:

1801 --- 1,455
1811 --- 1,589
1821 --- 1,643
1831 --- 2,139
1841 --- 3,126
1851 --- 3,719
1861 --- 5,909
1871 --- 8,244
1881 -- 10,580
1891 -- 12,861
1901 -- 16,699
1911 -- 18,451
1921 -- 18,772
1931 -- 20,152
1941 ----
1951 -- 21,862
1961 -- 21,768
1971 -- 22,080
1981 -- 19,723
1991 -- 19,198

Personally I would have thought Newton would have had a larger population, I am not sure where the boundries of the Newton that the census covers are found, with all the newer house developments in the area since 1991, I am sure that currently there will be a few thousand more people.

Does anyone know the 2001 census figure? {moscomment}
